About me
I am a passionate educator and educational researcher, who has been teaching at further education and university level for eleven years. I am a Senior Lecturer in Design and Technologies for Education. Previously, I was the Honours Program Director (of Design, Creative & Interactive Media, Fine Art, Photography, Digital Media and Contemporary Australian Indigenous Art), Lecturer and PhD Supervisor at Queensland College of Art (QCA), Griffith University in Australia. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), a peer-reviewed award for my continued effectiveness in relation to teaching and learning, and for my impact and influence through my responsibility for leading, managing or organising programs.
My key strengths are my natural leadership and mentoring abilities, and my knowledge of qualitative methodologies for Design, and innovative practice in teaching and learning.
My research specialises in studio-based learning spaces and I am currently completing a monograph on Sensory Affect and Design Studio Learning: Strategies for reflective teaching and student engagement in higher education. I have published widely on the studio as a site for learning; as a learning space (physical and online), on sensory affect in educational environments, on ceramics as a craft-based studio practice and as I champion the values of practice-based learning when blended with contemporary curriculum frameworks. I regularly deliver papers on these topics including at The Australian Council of University Art & Design Schools (ACUADS) Conference in Melbourne, and at the Tate Modern, UK. I have also received several grants for teaching and learning development and research.
I have taught in the United Kingdom, India, China and Australia. I am a member of NSEAD (The National Society for Education in Art and Design), Advance Higher Education (Advance HE) and on the Editorial Board of the Q1 journal, The International Journal of Art and Design Education, which is based in the UK (https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com.access.library.unisa.edu.au/journal/14768070).
