About me
I am expert in the field of older workers.
Despite having retired from being a full time Associate Professor with the former International Graduate School of Business, Dr Margaret Patrickson continues to contribute in her present adjunct role to the academic life of the School of Management both as a research supervisor, an active researcher and publisher, a presenter at international conferences and an attendee at appropriate local functions.
Throughout her academic life, Margaret’s field of interest has been concentrated within the disciplines of organisational behaviour and human resource management. Within this broad field of study her special focus has been on older workers which was the topic of her PhD. She is a former Chair of the Board of Organisational Psychologists in Australia, a former representative for Australia with the International Association of Management Academics, a former journal editor and a former member of the ANZAM executive. She has supervised almost 50 doctoral candidates to completion, the great majority from outside Australia in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia and she still keeps active ties with most of them.
Her present research interests include further work on older people in the workforce both full and part time, leadership behaviours adopted by those in new emergent industries with few pre-existing guidelines, and effective new strategies to introduce organisational change. In this current research she works closely with her former students and with her academic colleagues at Adelaide University, Flinders University, Torrens University, Brunel University (UK), and the University of Canberra. Since retiring she has also taken up a few non-academic pursuits such as bridge, croquet and teaching philosophy with U3A.
Her greatest personal assets would include her unfailing energy, her willingness to explore new horizons, and her ability to get to the heart of issues with a fresh outlook that avoids getting bogged down in pre-existing dogma.
