About me
Mark is a founding director of DSpace, which spun out of the Institute for Telecommunications Research (ITR) in 1995, specialised in satellite communications technology and space applications of signal processing. Mark was Chief Technical Officer and played a key role in the development of international satellite communications standards and ground equipment for users and hub stations. Mark built international business worth millions of $ based on close collaboration with ITR, recgnised through award of the Business Higher Education Round Table Award (BHERT) in 1998.
Mark led the company's technology development for over 15 years. Highlights included participation in the FedSat Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) in 2000, successfull venture capital funding in 2003 and finally acquisition by EMS Technologies (ELMG:NASDAQ) in 2008. Mark was appointed as Senior Engineering Fellow in Honeywell in 2012 and led technology development in the Global Tracking business unit which was concerned with Machine-2-Machine (M2), Internet of Things (IoT) and tracking systems. In 2018, Mark joined the Venture Catalyst Space program at the Innovation and Collaboration Centre to develop and new venture 'Safety from Space' in partnership with UniSA. Mark consults on technology for search and rescue systems (read:Pinpointing People in Distress), surveillance and electronic warfare.
Mark has a Ph.D. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester, is an adjunct Associate Research Professor position at the University of South Australia, a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (UK) and a Chartered Engineer. Mark has continued his association with research at UniSA since joining as researcher in 1989, resulting in over 50 publications and 7 patents. Mark is now an Adjunct Associate Research Professor with ITR.
