About me
I am Director of the UniSA Industrial AI Research Centre. (Note: please send administrative requests to IndustrialAI@unisa.edu.au). I am also Program Lead for Digital Technologies and Interoperability in the Future Energy Exports CRC.
My research area sits at the junction of different computing disciplines across Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, data and process management.
The underlying goal is to develop high efficiency methods for modelling and constructing intelligent software systems for solving real world problems, typically from an industrial and organisational background.
The main focus of my recent work is in the areas of Industry 4.0, interoperability, integration, Self-Aware Systems and autonomous decisionmaking, complex event processing, software system evolution and debugging, and emergent semantics. Typical application areas involve the autonomous enterprise, intelligent asset management/plant operations, future aware business processes, ontologies for design and product configuration, as well as health and bioinformatics.
External project partners: Current and recent project partners include Assetricity, Synengco, BAE Maritime Australia, Lockheed Martin Australia, Defence Science & Technology (DST), the Asset Institute, Yokogawa Electric, ANSTO, Mainpac, Siemens, Delta Electricity/Energy Australia, MacGen/AGL, SA Pathology.
Industrial Standards: I am member of TC184/WG6 (Oil and Gas Interoperability). I am chair of the Joint Special Interest Group for Operations and Maintenance Standards supported by MIMOSA, PCA and FIATECH which has been involved since 2012 in the international Oil and Gas Interoperability Pilot (OGI Pilot). I am currently Co-CTO of MIMOSA.
Industrial Demo: live demo of the OIIE/OGI Pilot and the UniSA transformation engine is depicted in the video below. Warning: This is a long video (40 minutes) primarily aimed at an industrial engineering audience involving detailed presentations from our industry partners.
Health Standards: I have been involved in the RCPA (Royal College of Pathology Australia) effort for developing standards for clinical databases of genetic variants, following our engagement in genetic data curation: MAWSON Project, funded by QPP (Quality Pathology Pathways program, Department of Health and Ageing); Data Capture project funded by ANDS (Australian National Data Service); Human Variome Project - Australian front end (funded by NeCTAR).
