Matthew Smout is Program Director of the Master of Clinical Psychology Program and Senior Clinic Supervisor at the UniSA Psychology Clinic and a registered psychologist. His research interests include enhancing the effectiveness of psychological therapies in routine practice, methamphetamine and other substance use disorders, and the theory and practice of schema therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Dr Smout is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the APS Clinical College, is a Charter member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science and the Australian Association for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. He was the inaugural national convenor of the APS ACT Interest Group.

Dr Smout previously worked for 16 years as a clinical psychologist in government mental health and addiction treatment services, managing the Centre for Treatment of Anxiety and Depression from 2009-2016 and was a clinical lecturer at University of Adelaide.
