Cancer treatment summaries
This project aims to identify solutions to barriers to providing patients and their GPs a written summary of treatment. A treatment summary contains brief details of treatment received, management of side effects, and follow up requirements. CIs: Prof Tim Price (Medical Oncologist, The Queen Elizabeth Hopsital), Dr Gabrielle Cehic (Senior Nuclear Medicine Physician, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital), Jonathon Hogan-Doran (Medical Oncology, Royal Adelaide Hospital), Ms Julie Marker (Executive, Cancer Voices SA).
Quality of life in patients with Neuroendocrine Tumours (NETs) undergoing Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT)
This multisite international project is supported by the Commonwealth Neuroendocrine Tumour Collaborative (CommNETs) - Quality of Life Working Group. We are examining patient-reported data collected over the course of PRRT induction at several institutions in Australia and Canada to understand how the treatment affects patients' symptoms and functioning. PRRT is a radioisotope therapy that is used to treat symptoms and slow disease progress. CIs: Dr Gabrielle Cehic (Senior Nuclear Medicine Physician, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital), Dr Grace Kong (Senior Nuclear Medicine Physician, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre) and others from the CommNETs Quality of Life Working Group.
Current student projects
Imogen Ramsey (PhD candidate, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of South Australia, 2016). Addressing patient-reported outcome data gaps for cancer survivorship monitoring. Supervisors: Prof Marion Eckert, Dr Amanda Hutchinson, Dr Nadia Corsini, Ms Julie Marker
Della John McKitterick (PhD candidate, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of South Australia, 2019). Transitioning to the domestic nursing workforce; the perceptions and experiences of international nursing students and new graduates. Supervisors: Prof Marion Eckert, Prof Mary Chiarella, Dr Micah Peters, Dr Nadia Corsini.
Laura Lunardi (PhD candidate, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of South Australia, 2020). Self-care management of symptom burden in patients with advanced kidney disease. Supervisors: Dr Nadia Corsini, Dr Kathy Hill, Prof Marion Eckert.
PhD completions
Dr Samantha Boots (Flinders University). Moving beyond the restriction paradox: distinguishing the protective and detrimental aspects of maternal control in feeding on children's eating behaviour and weight. Supervisors: Prof Marika Tiggemann, Dr Nadia Corsini, Dr Julie Mattiske
