Efficient rail transport
Our Energymiser in-cab driver advice system uses optimal control theory to help train drivers stay on time and minimise energy use. The system is being used by railways around the world, including onore trains in Australia, intercity passenger trains in the UK, and on high-speed TGV trains in France.
I am currently working on a Linkage project to develop new methods and systems for the scheduling and control of trains on congested rail corridors, to reduce delays and reduce energy use. The new systems will use both centralised and distributed scheduling systems to do real-time rescheduling of trains to ensure smooth train flows.
