About me
Dr Rose Boucaut is a Fellow of the Australian College of Physiotherapists. Rose's work at the the University of South Australia: Allied Health and Human Performance, involves course coordination of the final year Bachelor of Physiotherapy course, "Work Health and Safety Practice". During this course final year physiotherapy students are placed with industry partners in South Australia to conduct small work health and safety projects.
In 2018 Rose was awarded an Australian Endeavour Executive Fellowship which enabled her to travel to Scandinavia and Thailand to work with colleagues. One aspect of this travel involved ongoing work to establish an official subgroup of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) in the field of work health and safety. Subsequenty the International Federation of Physical Therapists working in Occupational Health and Ergonomics (IFPTOHE) was ratified as an official subgroup of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy in Geneva, May 2019. There are seven Executive Committe members of the sub-group of which Rose has the lead role as President. It is an exciting time for physiotherapists to be working in this field - the International Labour Organisation is celebrating its 100th year in 2019 with a key focus on work related musculo-skeletal injury, an area of particular interest to physiotherapists both in terms of injury management and work disability prevention.
The work Rose undertook in Thailand, as part of the Endeavour Fellowship, involved research at the The Back, Neck, and Other Joint Pain Research Group, Khon Kaen University, Thailand. This work has led to several publications and extensive media coverage about neck discomfort and pain associated with prolonged smartphone use.
Rose's recent research has also focussed on student nurse WHS and she has a longstanding interest in manual handling issues.
