About me
Dr Sam Rudd is a SIEF Ross Metcalf STEM+ Business Fellow in Future Industries Institute (FII) at the University of South Australia (UniSA). He is a Chemical Engineer and Materials Scientist working at the interface of materials science, manufacturing and innovation, specialising in translating world class scientific research into commercially successful products.
Dr Rudd is the recipient of the prestigious Prime Super Agricultural Innovation Award in 2019, for the significance of his research finding in AgTech. He is the joint recipient of the Ralston Medal of Excellence in Physical Chemistry in 2019, and was also awarded the Norton Jackson Material Science and Engineering Medal for linking fundamental research with industry application in 2018. In addition to his academic collaborations with internationally renowned scientists, his research has led to a new partnership between UniSA and Sentek Sensor Technologies Pty Ltd. (a global leader in the manufacture and sale of sensors). Sam is a co-inventor on a joint patent with Sentek for the next generation of chemical sensors in agricultural using conducting polymers.
He has received his PhD in the field of Materials Science, Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing from the University of South Australia, and his research interests are Thin Film Coatings, Novel Conducting Polymers, Materials Science, Advanced Manufacturing, Organic Electronics, Smart Devices, and Sensors. These research interests have yielded several publications in high quality journals. As an external evidence of his research excellence, Clarivate’s InCites ranks one of his first-author publications in the top 5% of papers published in Polymer Science. It has been acknowledged in the Top 20 Downloaded Articles in the Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics between July 2016 and June 2018, and in the Top 10 cited articles within the journal from 2017-2018 (Journal Citation Reports).
Prior to postgraduate study, Dr Rudd has worked as Associate Production Manager and a professional Chemical Engineer at “Moshkfam Fars Chemical Industry, Crop Protection and Pesticide Production Complex”.
