Sam is a popular music scholar, musician, and lecturer at UniSA Creative. His work is primarily focused on music scenes and other creative industries, and his doctoral research focussed on the social and cultural value of small live music venues. Previous peer-reviewed publications of Dr Whiting's have explored the music industry, the live music ecology, music scenes, issues of access and live music, alternative forms of capital within the creative industries, heritage, gender studies and cultural identity.
