Simon Cottrell is a Finance Lecturer and the Research Degree Coordinator for finance and property at the University of South Australia's Business School. He is a member of the Centre for Markets, Values and Inclusion (CMVI) and an allied member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA). Prior to joining UniSA, Simon coordinated postgraduate and undergraduate courses in corporate finance and financial markets at various universities including Flinders University, Federation University Australia, and the Australian Institute of Business where he delivered online courses in finance globally to MBA students.
Before embarking on a career in academia, Simon held a senior position within the treasury department of an Australian commercial bank. This industry experience, particularly as tenure was during the 2007 Financial Crisis, provided Simon with a relatively new area for academic research and from there, completed a Ph.D. on commercial bank debt funding programs and credit default swaps (CDSs) markets. The importance of his research findings were published in various media outlets including the Australian Financial Review.
