Simon began working in dementia care in 2007 the final year of his social work degree. His social work has been in both the inpatient and community settings, across the primary, acute, and emergency sectors. His work has been in mental health for adults, mental health for older persons, geriatrics, palliative care, and in private practice delivering Employee Assistance Program.

About me

Simon tries to help clients to maintain their wellbeing in a range of situations, addressing themes such as adjusting to change, recovering from stress, anxiety, and depression, grief and loss, resilience and personal growth, cross cultural understanding, relationship issues, and work-life balance. He tries to assist clients to reflect upon their situation, develop options and practical solutions, and manage their recovery. Simon’s approach is informed by Strengths Based Approach, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Brief Solution-focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Positive Psychology.
Simon’s undergraduate was in Adelaide, in Sociology, Indonesian Language, and Asian Studies. He taught and studied in Indonesia for several years, and his BA Honours thesis was ‘Approaching Humour as a Discourse in Evaluating Indonesia’s Middle Class’. He career-changed to accounting over his thirties and became a Certified Practising Accountant. In his forties, he returned to matters sociological and began his Master of Social Work in 2006.
Simon’s social life includes SANFL, community arts, gardening, cycling, hiking, and very, very slow jogging.
Simon is available for appointments on a casual basis.
