About me
Stephen is Dean of Programs for UniSA Creative, which encompasses a rich mix of programs including architecture, design, contemporary art, planning, creative industries, film and television, visual effects, journalism, and communication and media. Stephen’s teaching from foundational to advanced levels has included partnering with practice to encourage discourse and knowledge sharing, and to synthesise design, technical and project management in collaborative and complex projects. He has been responsible for the advancement of relationships between students, industry and professional associations and as Program Director of multiple programs has led significant curriculum development. Stephen is a Registered Architect and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects, and has been appointed as external examiner, reviewer and moderator at various institutions nationally and internationally. His extensive previous experience in practice in the public and commercial sectors has been recognised through architecture awards at the state and national level, and he has provided professional and academic leadership through the Australian Institute of Architects and the Association of Architecture Schools of Australasia. As an Architectural Practice Examination (APE) Examiner and Chair of the national Accreditation Management Committee for the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA), Stephen has an intimate knowledge of the national professional regulatory contexts. His diverse research covers the fields of design pedagogy, sustainability in the built environment, professional practice, and heritage and conservation. Stephen’s research has been disseminated through published books, peer reviewed national and international conferences, local and national professional design journals, group exhibitions and the media.
