She holds a PhD in the field of Tourism and a Master of Business Advanced in International Event Management from University of Queensland, and a Bachelor of Business in Hospitality Management and Event Management from Victoria University in Melbourne.
Sunny has developed her academic profile around event management, visitor experiences and event impacts, through research projects on local and international festivals and sports events, using qualitative and quantitative methods. She produces knowledge that helps governments and industries to utilise their events to achieve diverse objectives and build the strategies required for successful and sustainable outcomes. Her current research focuses on the strategic use of events for community development, destination management, corporate marketing, public diplomacy, well-being and placemaking.
Her research has been published in top journals in the field of Tourism and Event Management, including Tourism Management and Event Management. She serves on the Editorial Board of 'Event Management', the ‘International Journal of Event and Festival Management’ and ‘Frontiers in Sports and Active Living’.
