Upekha Atupola is a tutor, research assistant, and doctoral candidate at the University of South Australia. His research focuses on sustainability accounting and management. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with First Class Honours from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), United Kingdom, and the Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA).
Upekha’s research has been published in reputable academic journals, and he has presented his work at several international conferences. His PhD project explores integration of accounting into circular economy business models. He also serves as a peer reviewer for academic journals and has been invited as a guest speaker at various academic events.
With over eight years of teaching experience in financial accounting and reporting and management accounting, Upekha has also contributed to curriculum development for professional accounting programs. His professional experience spans the automobile, media, and education sectors, where he has held positions such as Assistant Manager, Head of Finance, and Co-founder/Chief Financial Officer.
Beyond academia, Upekha is a proud father and an avid traveller who enjoys exploring new cultures and destinations. He is passionate about his research and remains dedicated to advancing knowledge in sustainability accounting while actively engaging in academic and professional communities. He has secured multiple research grants and continues to participate in various scholarly and professional initiatives.
