She has established collaborations with diverse industry partners which have enabled the translation of her research and technological innovations into real-world benefits. She is a Professor in Structural Engineering and a Professorial Lead (associate Dean) in Research Education at UniSA STEM. Yan was elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) in 2024 and as a Fellow of Engineers Australia. Professor Zhuge has been serving as the Australian Research Council College of Expert since 2019.
Yan now leads a prestigious concrete research team comprising four academics and approximately twelve PhD candidates. Her main research interests include green concrete materials, fibre composite materials and structures. She has published 260+ JCR Q1 journal papers. Her publications have attracted 10,000+ citations with a H-index of 51 and currently has 6 highly cited papers (Clarivate). Yan is also named as 100,000 Top-Scientists (Top 2% Scientists) in the World for Civil Engineering since 2019. She currently serves as an Associate Editor of Case Studies in Construction Materials (Elsevier, Q1 journal) and acts as a Guest Editor for Engineering Structures (Elsevier, Q1 journal).
Her research endeavours extend beyond publications, as she has successfully secured grants exceeding $6+ million for sustainable construction initiatives, including 1 ARC Linkage project, 4 ARC Discovery Projects, 2 ARC LIEF (1 is leading CI) grants, CI of ARC Nanocomm Hub and ARC training centre, and is leading a SmartCrete CRC project in the past five years. Highlighted among her projects are:
