Dr Yoon Lim is Research Fellow at the Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB), UniSA and SA Pathology. Yoon has over 11 years of experience in cell death in neurobiology and cancer biology.
Yoon completed his PhD in Neuroscience in 2016 (University of South Australia). Yoon’s PhD project focused on the signalling mechanisms of neurotrophins and their importance in neuronal survival, proliferation, and neurological disorders, including glioma, resulting in 17 primary research articles (3 as first author).

About me
Dr Yoon Lim is Research Fellow at the Centre for Cancer Biology (CCB), UniSA and SA Pathology.
Before his PhD, Yoon worked for a biotech company in South Korea (2000 – 2007). Yoon discovered several diagnostic marker candidates for autoimmune diseases and cancer and developed a novel system for detecting residual antibiotics in whole milk that was widely recognised and sold to several major dairy companies in South Korea.
Since Oct 2016, Yoon has been working as a post-doctoral researcher in cell death and cancer biology. He has been working with internal and external collaborators under the mentorship of Prof Sharad Kumar. He spent the last 6 years to understand how the cell death protease, caspase-2, is regulated in response to replicative stress in tumour suppression. His projects led to several seminal findings providing new mechanistic insights into the regulation of caspase-2 activation in tumour suppression. The contribution of his studies to the cell death field was recognised with the ANZSCDB Early Researcher Award in 2020.
Yoon has authored 34 journal articles (9 first or corresponding authors) which have attracted over 1450 citations, and his h-index is 23. He has presented at over 25 national and international conferences and has organised several national/local/institutional scientific meetings. Yoon is currently co-supervising three students (PhD, Masters and Honours).
