About me
Professor You-il Lee is a political economist and currently serves as the Dean of Programs (Management and Marketing) at UniSA Business, University of South Australia. In this role, he manages a wide range of programs, including Arts & Cultural Management, Communications & Marketing, Design & Marketing, Digital Business, Human Resource Management, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, International Business, Management, Marketing, Sport Management, Supply Chain Management and Tourism, Event & Hospitality Management.
You-il holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours and a PhD in Politics from Murdoch University. His research focuses on socio-economic and political changes caused by globalisation and regionalism. His work has been published in various leading journals, including International Business Review, International Marketing Review, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Contemporary Asia, Management Decision, International Journal of Bank Marketing and Asia Pacific Business Review, as well as by top publishers such as Routledge (Taylor & Francis), Oxford University Press, Edward Elgar, and London Financial Times. Notable recent publications include The Political Economy of New Regionalism in Northeast Asia (Routledge, 2018), The Korean Economy: From Growth to Maturity (Routledge, 2019), and Cross-Cultural Challenges of Managing ‘One Belt One Road’ Projects (Routledge, 2022). He is currently co-authoring a monograph titled The Political Economy of Foreign Direct Investment in Korea: Evolution, Dynamics and Contradictions (Routledge, 2025).
In addtion to his academic achievements, You-il has extensive experience advising companies and the governments on international business environments, policy issues, and political and economic engagement with contemporary Asia. He served as President of the Korean Studies Association of Australasia (KSAA) from 2011 to 2015 and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Australia-Korea Business Council (AKBC) until 2024. He is also affiliated with several organisations, including European Association of Evolutionary Political Economy (EAEPE), Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE), and Australia-New Zealand International Business Academy (ANZIBA).
