Craig is an award-winning educator, researcher and supervisor in the areas of screenwriting, creative writing and screen production, and the broader field of creative practice research, which includes the creative doctorate. He is currently editor of the Journal of Screenwriting, and co-editor of Media Practice and Education.
Craig has published over 100 books, book chapters, journal articles and creative practice research works, as well as industry articles, book reviews and interviews. About me
Craig is an award-winning educator, researcher and supervisor in the areas of screenwriting, creative writing and screen production, and the broader field of creative practice research, which includes the creative doctorate. Craig has published over 100 books, book chapters, journal articles and creative practice research works, as well as industry articles, book reviews and interviews. He has also worked on a variety of screen projects as a writer, script editor and script consultant, where he continues to mentor emerging screenwriters.
Craig joined UniSA Creative in 2021 as Dean of Research, where he oversaw the Academic Unit's research strategy and performance, including Higher Degrees by Research, as well as research engagement and impact. Since 2022 he has been in the role of Executive Dean, where he overseas the Academic Unit's strategy and performance, which includes responsibility for research, education, external engagement, and workplace culture.
Craig is also President of the Australian Council of Deans and Directors of Creative Arts (DDCA). He was previously Research Lead for the Australasian Council of Deans of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (DASSH)'s Network of Associate and Deputy Deans; Deputy Chair and Research Lead for the Australasian Association of Writing Programs (AAWP); and Founding Chair of the Australian Screen Production Education and Research Association (ASPERA)'s Research Sub-Committee.

In 2016, Craig won an Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) Citation for PhD supervision, acknowledging a peer-to-peer pedagogy he developed and led for 5 years with creative writing PhD candidates. He also won teaching and supervision awards related to this at RMIT in 2014 and 2016, and in 2017 Craig won the RMIT Vice-Chancellor's Award for Research Supervision Excellence.
In 2020 and 2021, Craig was recognised by The Australian as research 'Field Leader' in the area of Film.
