About me
Associate Professor Gillian Caughey (BSc Hons, PhD) is a pharmacoepidemiologist with research interests in medicines safety and utilisation focused on the older population with multimorbidity and polypharmacy. She is the Principal Research Fellow at the Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA), South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute and Adjunct Associate Professor at University of South Australia. Prior to this she was Director of Research at Clinical Pharmacology, Royal Adelaide Hospital (Adelaide University). Her research to date, has a strong translational focus on improving health outcomes for the older population and is internationally recognised for her work focused on medicines safety and utilisation in older people with multimorbidity and polypharmacy. Her current work extends to the aged care population using ROSA, a unique large linked data-platform of over 2.8 million Australians accessing aged care services. This work is focused on monitoring and evaluating the quality and safety of aged care services provided to older Australians, to improve their overall health and wellbeing. I am currently supervising PhD students undertaking research in multimorbidity, polypharmacy and the identification of patients at high risk of adverse medicine events; models of care for multimorbidity and impact of frailty and geriatric assessment on treatment outcomes using large population-based data.
A/Prof Caughey is Chair of the Drug Utilisation Special Interest Group Education Committee for the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) and on the Executive Committee ISPE Drug Utilisation Special Interest Group (https://www.pharmacoepi.org/). She is Co-Chair of the Pharmacoepidemiology Special Interest Group for Australian Society of Clinical and Experimental Pharmacologists and Toxicologists (https://www.ascept.org/). She Co-Chaired the Australian Deprescribing Network Annual Meeting (ADeN, 2018) and is a member of the ADeN Executive and Public Engagement Committee (https://australiandeprescribingnetwork.com/au/) She is also a member of the Leadership Committee, Health Analytic Research Collaborative (HARC, www.healthtranslationsa.org.au/our-work/platforms/health-analytics-research-collaborative/), Health Translation SA (NHMRC accredited Advanced Health Research and Translation Centre) and has served as an invited member of the RACGP Multimorbidity Committee.
