Joanne Tingey-Holyoak is Associate Professor at UniSA Business and Program Director of Accounting. Joanne has a PhD in sustainable agricultural water management from UniSA, a Bachelor of Business and a First Class Honours degree.
Joanne’s research brings accounting disciplinary expertise to agricultural water management to advance the interdisciplinary perspectives and industry- and community-driven solutions necessary to meet ever increasing global water challenges. About me

Joanne represents UniSA on the Steering Committee of the Research Alliance for Climate and Food Systems run by the Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS) at MIT in Cambridge where she was 2020 Visiting Faculty. Joanne is currently Associate Editor at Australasian Journal of Water Resources and Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal.
Joanne has a background in agriculture and industry, strong links to business, is a certified Chartered Accountant, CPA, CPAg (AIA), and through research funding of over AU$850,000 awarded to UniSA to date, Joanne has made end-user informed assessments of water accounting and management resulting in policy and practical guidance. A member of the Sustainable Engineering, Accounting and Law Group, current projects include a global water storage study of 51 countries for the World Bank, and industry-based development of a soil and climate sensing innovation that enhances farm profit and water productivity.
Such research also informs design and teaching of the core accounting curriculum course ‘Contemporary Issues in Accounting’ with leadership in teaching and learning resulting in several distinctions, including an award for collaborative development of a Teamwork Employer Expectations Model (TEEM).
