Dr Mel Hull is an Online Course Facilitator in Public Health at UniSA Online. As an OCF, Mel is responsible for leading the development and delivery of teaching for UniSA Online students. About me
Dr Mel Hull is an Online Course Facilitator in Public Health at UniSA Online. As an OCF, Mel is responsible for leading the development and delivery of teaching for UniSA Online students. Her role involves working closely with divisional staff at UniSA to provide high-quality online teaching to undergraduate students, and to coordinate the day-to-day activities of online tutoring staff.
Mel has five years experience as a lecturer, course coordinator and tutor across a wide range of courses in the Bachelor of Human Movement and Bachelor of Exercise & Sports Science degrees. Mel is passionate about the opportunities provided by online learning, and in particular helping students to link the course content to real world applications.
Mel was awarded her PhD (Public Health) in 2019. Her project sought to understand barriers to help-seeking and health service utilisation that affect at-risk rural populations (farmers). Mel also brings significant research experience to her teaching role. Mel has an extensive background as a project manager and research assistant across numerous health research projects. While her most recent work has focused on older adults, she has experience working with people across the lifespan, and within a variety of across communities and groups.
Mel maintains an active research interest, with skills across both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including mixed methods evaluation writing. She maintains close working relationships with a number of community and industry partners. Most recently Mel’s research work included assessing the outcomes of a physical activity intervention to increase activity of older adults with knee osteoarthritis, an intergenerational dementia education program for primary school children and older adults, and evaluating the effects of a social dining experience for isolated older adults.
