Saira holds a Bachelor of Commerce, a Master of Commerce, and a Master of Accounting. She started her career as a lecturer in Pakistan and from 2012 to 2018 worked with The University of Adelaide as a tutor/lecturer/co-ordinator. She has taught various courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including Introductory Accounting, Financial Reporting, Accounting Information Systems, Corporate Accounting, Advanced Financial Accounting, Strategic Financial Analysis, Auditing Theory and Practice, Taxation Law, Business Finance and Management Accounting. She was awarded ‘The University of Adelaide Executive Dean Award’ in 2017 for excellence in teaching against the criteria: using outstanding, scholarly and demonstrably approaches to teaching and the support of learning that influence, motivate and inspire students. In recognition of her online teaching practice, she received a mid-career teaching award at UniSA Online 2024. She completed professional development courses such as ‘Engaging Learners Online’ and a ‘Professional Certificate in University Teaching’. She received a research grant for a multidisciplinary project 'students as co-designer of peer assessment criteria in team-based assessment'.
Saira served as an inquiry officer for the Australian Electoral Commission in 2016 and 2019. She is a full member of CPA Australia. She received a service pin for completing 10 years of membership and contributing to the profession. Her research interest lies in the area of accounting education.
