Since completing my doctorate degree in Physical & Organic Chemistry at the University of South Australia in 2000, I have obtained 24 years of experience working in research, technical and managerial positions in both Industry and University environments. These positions include:
- 4 years in a Research and Development role at an Adelaide based company FlexiChem Pty Ltd where I synthesised functional silicone compounds and emulsions for use in the rubber and textile industry.
- 11 years at the Ian Wark Research Institute located at the University of South Australia providing high quality technical support, analysis and consulting services to researchers, HDR students and industry.
- 2 years at the Australian Water Quality Centre (AWQC) located at SA Water where I managed 24 Chemists and Technicians across five highly specialised NATA accredited laboratories. It was a position of great responsibility as the NATA accredited water testing data had to be generated within strict timeframes and was used to ensure public safety and a clean environment.
- 5 years as the Operations Manager at the Future Industries Institute located at the University of South Australia where I was responsible for supporting the research activities of the institute by leading a team of 10 Technical staff, managing the day-to-day operations of the Institute’s laboratory technical services, liaising closely with Facilities Management and External Contractors and ensuring that best practice WHS procedures and policies were implemented and adhered to.
- Currently I am the Senior Manager of the STEM/FII Technical Sevices team where I oversee 38 Technical Staff who support teaching, research and commercial activities. This cuts across disciplines including Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology and IT.
