About me

I am recruiting new PhD students commencing in 2024, see my research supervision and research lab page.

Her research interests lie in applied, industry and interdisciplinary studies related to information behaviour, interactive information retrieval, social informatics, and data governance and privacy. She is passionate about enhancing the interplay between people, information and technology.

She has published more than 120 papers in top journals and conferences in her field, including 52 SCI/SSCI journal articles. Her research work has been supported by national and international competitive research grants and attracted more than $1.5M in government and industry research funding.

Since 2011, Tina has served as Review Editor, Guest Editor and Editorial Board Member of a number of international journals, including Information Processing & Management (IPM), Journal of the Association of Information Science & Technology (JASIST), ARIST, Online Information Review (OIR), Aslib Journal of Information Management, and Information and Learning Sciences. She was awarded the outstanding reviewer award for IPM, Tourism Management, Aslib and OIR. Tina has served as co-chair and PC member for a number of national and international conferences and delivered 39 keynote and invited talks at conferences/workshops and to Australian and overseas universities.

Her teaching has covered a broad range of courses in digital information management and human information behaviour. Currently she is teaching Research Methods course to Honours and Masters students enrolled in 5 different majors and IT Masters' research project course. Tina has supervised 18 Ph.D. students (with 8 as principal) with 12 completions.

She received a number of awards and recognitions for her contributions to the research field and broad communities; these included a Top 50 Australia’s leading researcher in Engineering & Computer Science discipline and the Field Leader in Library & Information Science by The Australian (2020), South Australian Young Tall Poppy of Science Award (2019), South Australian Winnovation (Women in Innovation) Award in “Maths and Data” category (2018), and Fellow of South Australian Governor’s Leadership Foundation (FGLF 2017). Her PhD thesis was awarded the prestigious Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards: Highly Commended Award in the Information Science Category. Tina currently serves as Co-Chair of Research Advisory Committee of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), and Director-at-Large, Board of Directors of the international Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T).
